Most of the Indians who has traditional perspective today feel dressing modest and covered is our culture, but where is the proof for that, Indian or Hindu culture was never restrictive, there is no place for fixed thoughts, opinions, rules in Hindu way of life. When people observe the walls on temples, the statues or carvings cover what’s necessary, that’s it and they were beautiful adorn with many jewels and embellishments. They knew how to beautifully present themselves, they were highly evolved individuals with great taste and love for artistic representation.
Indian climate doesn’t suit head to toe covered clothing, when we are essentially born with nothing on us, and every human has same organs, they were accepted as they were, beauty was just appreciated may not be listed. Lust will not exist when individuals has clear cut idea of the boundaries. Women in families like mother and sister cannot always present themselves modest, because of the work and day to day act activities they do at home, yet men in the family don’t get angered, disturbed or provoked because they are aware that while doing physical activities it is difficult to put a piece of cloth at right place always and they are conditioned with an idea of love, care, respect and protective instinct towards them.
Such a thought process of looking divinity (In Bhagvatgeeta, lord Krishna says am everywhere in every one) in other beings existed in Hindu culture, they looked other women as mothers and bestowed them the respect they deserved. People wore what they were comfortable with but were not suffocating themselves. The indigenous people had the awareness, empathy, freedom, respect, kindness, artistic expression which are missed in present atmosphere.
Miscreants were there at those times too but they were not given importance and looked down or ignored. There was a beautiful karma theory, do your duty, every one pay backs for their own karmas. Half of the conflicts in the world will be erased if people mind their own business and leave others with the freedom of their choice.
All the glorious history, broad understanding, empathy is eroded in beliefs of people from few centuries and this restrictive ideologies has creeped into minds of people, it’s unfortunate. For women with this rising temperatures to live in that head to toe clothing is a daily punishment. There is a need for collective renaissance of our thought process influenced by the abrahamic religions and colonial mindsets. Need to revive indigenous thought process again and build an empathetic outlook where people are treated like their own with utmost respect, a free and fair society.
